Oh Mongolia!

After more than a month in the land of the steppe, we finally crossed the border into Central Asia. Behind us lies a route that challenged us, yet captivated and inspired at every turn.

We covered around 1,600 kilometers of desert, steppe, and mountains, and the final stretch was as intense as the first: walls of wind, deep sand that swallowed our wheels, long stretches without water, and nights occasionally visited by unexpected strangers. It was wild, unpredictable, and exhausting — yet always breathtaking. The vast skies, endless horizons, and shifting light across the steppe made every struggle feel small in comparison.

Meeting other bikepackers along the way, we realized how deeply Mongolia tests endurance and presence. The landscape strips away distraction and comfort, yet rewards you with moments of wonder: a sunset over a lonely mountain ridge, the warmth of nomads welcoming strangers into their gers, and the quiet magic of riding through a land that feels both timeless and immense.

Cycling here challenges both body and mind, but it also opens your eyes to the raw beauty of the country and the resilience of its people, leaving memories that stay.

Mongolia left us full of impressions and contradictions: a land of pure space and survival, where tradition and freedom, beauty and hardship, coexist inseparably.

We prepared a collection on Komoot that shows our route day by day and gives a bit more insight. Feel free to reach out if you want to take on Mongolia by yourself and got some questions.
